What you can expect
Discover the culture of Nanao, a historic port town in Noto, through its rare bridal curtain tradition and local food culture. Meet your guide in front of the Hanayome Noren Museum and begin with an introduction to this unique custom, known as “Hanayome Noren.” These beautifully decorated bridal curtains are used in wedding ceremonies in parts of Noto, Kaga, and Etchu, and reflect the importance of family, marriage, status, and local craftsmanship.
Inside the museum, learn how the bride traditionally passes through the curtain when entering the groom’s family home, and how this custom developed in the former Kaga domain, where trade, wealth, and dyeing culture such as Kaga Yuzen helped shape local wedding traditions.
After the museum visit, walk along Ipponsugi Street, once one of Nanao’s main streets. Your guide will introduce the old merchant town atmosphere, traditional townhouses, and the community culture that supported both family rituals and local festivals.
Continue to Noto Shokusai Market and discover the food culture of Nanao and the Noto Peninsula. Learn about local seafood, agricultural products, and specialties such as crab, yellowtail, blackthroat seaperch, monkfish, fermented pufferfish roe, ishiru fish sauce, and Noto salt.
Finally, enjoy seafood bowls or other local dishes inside the market. A ¥3,000 food credit per person is included, and you may choose one meal or try several shops within the included amount. The tour ends at Noto Shokusai Market.
