Anne Frank’s words continue to motivate us to believe that there will always, despite adversity and hardship, be a glimmer of hope and the possibility of doing, changing and fighting, but, above all, continuing in this world with a committed soul and a clean heart. Anne Frank’s story depicts that of tens of thousands of Jewish families who resisted Hitler’s hatred by hiding, but also that of thousands of committed beings who decided to step forward and put aside indifference to help others, even if they risked their future and lives. Today, the Memorial and Tolerance museum honors the victims of the Holocaust, the survivors who share their stories so that horror will not be repeated and all those who chose to be protective, so that remembrance may claim its share and the reflection of genocide will alert us to the destructive power of hate speech and divisions that hurt our country and the world so much.
