What you can expect

  • Bayplay is the only operator running guided bike rides inside Point Nepean National Park. It is one of Victoria's most historically significant parks and one of its most scenic. Bayplay has been operating on the Peninsula for 26 years.

Collect your bike and helmet at the Bayplay shop, meet your guide and set off to explore the stunning coastline

The route follows Coles Track along the coastline from the Quarantine Station, 19th-century buildings used during the Gold Rush to screen arriving migrants for disease, later used to house Australian Army Cadets, and in 1999 as a temporary refuge for Kosovar Albanian refugees.

From there, Coles Track continues to Observatory Point, where the Old Cattle Jetty looks out over the Burrunan Dolphin Sanctuary. Burrunan Dolphins are one of only two known resident populations in the world. Echidnas are frequently spotted along this stretch of the track.

Further along, Cheviot Hill marks the beach where Prime Minister Harold Holt disappeared while swimming in December 1967. His body was never recovered.

The route ends at Fort Nepean, a former coastal defence facility that formed part of the fortifications protecting the entrance to Port Phillip Bay during WWI and WWII. Walk through the underground tunnels and fortified rooms. At the tip of the Peninsula, Bass Strait meets Port Phillip Bay.
