What you can expect
Living Nature in Santa Maria el Tule Our adventure begins with a visit to the legendary El Tule Tree. Be amazed by this ahuehuete that is more than 2,000 years old and has the widest trunk in the world. As you walk around it, discover the whimsical shapes that time and nature have carved into its bark, an experience that will connect you with the living history of the region.
The Art of Color in Teotitlán del Valle We'll continue on to the iconic community of Teotitlán del Valle, famous worldwide for its exquisite wool rugs. Here, we will visit a family workshop where master craftsmen will show you the traditional process: from the carding of the wool to the dyeing with natural pigments such as cochineal and indigo. You'll learn the meaning behind each Zapotec design, giving you a deep insight into this cultural heritage.
The Spirit of Oaxaca: Mezcal Distillery To top it all off, we'll enter an artisan mezcal distillery (palenque). You'll get a closer look at the production process of “the drink of the gods”: from baking the agave piñas in earthen ovens to distilling in copper pots. The experience culminates with a guided tasting of different varieties of mezcal, allowing you to distinguish the nuances and aromas that make this drink a unique liquid treasure in the world.
