What you can expect

Due to its location at the mouth of the Neckar into the Rhine, shipping has played an important role for Mannheim for centuries - today the port of Mannheim is one of the most important inland ports in Europe. Huge container ships, loading stations and warehouses bring a cosmopolitan flair to the former working-class city. On the way from the Teufelsbrücke, the oldest preserved bridge in the city, through the port area, you will cross the waterways again and again and learn interesting facts about the beginnings of industrial culture as well as the life and living conditions of the port workers. You will discover interesting objects of Mannheim's bridge and industrial architecture and learn about the former and current importance of the port for trade and tourism. A final detour takes you to the Jungbusch district, which is only separated from the port area by the connecting canal: where the workers and sack carriers used to live, today the creative pulse of the city beats in a multicultural, trendy district.
