What you can expect

  • Step into the Arctic night on a guided Northern Lights adventure by car, starting from Longyearbyen and heading into the dark valleys of Adventdalen and beyond.
This tour takes you away from the streetlights, past the Svalbard Global Seed Vault, and out towards Mine 3, where we search for the best spots to see the aurora dancing above the snow‑covered landscape.
With warm drinks, cookies, and local storytelling, this is a comfortable, small‑group experience designed for both first‑time visitors and repeat aurora chasers.

This evening tour uses a minivan or comfortable car to move quickly between different points around Longyearbyen, Adventdalen, the Global Seed Vault area, and Mine 3. Your guide monitors weather and light conditions, chooses the best dark spots, and explains how the aurora works, the myths and stories behind it, and the unique Arctic conditions that make Svalbard such a good place to see the Northern Lights.
The route is flexible: the tour always goes first into Adventdalen and near the Seed Vault, then continues toward Mine 3 or turns back, depending where the lights appear and current conditions.

    Itinerary

    • Hotel pickup in Longyearbyen.
    • Drive out of town into the Adventdalen valley, moving away from light pollution.
    • Stop near the Svalbard Global Seed Vault for a short break, warm drink, and a short explanation of its history and importance.
    • Continue toward Mine 3 or other suitable dark spots along the way for Northern Lights viewing.
    • Pause at 2–3 good locations under the sky, with warm drinks, cookies, and storytelling.
    • Return to Longyearbyen by the end of the evening (approx. 3 hours total, including pick up, drop off, driving and stops).

    What’s included

    • Professional Arctic guide with local knowledge
    • Warm beverages, and cookies
    • Comfortable car or minivan transport with hotel pickup and drop‑off
    • Aurora Borealis explanation and Northern Lights stories
    • Small‑group atmosphere
    • Tips and tricks for the best photos

    Optional add-on
If you don't have a camera, don't worry. A professional photographer will take photos, and you can ask your guide before leaving about purchasing the digital files for an additional fee.

Duration: Approx. 3 hours in total.

Note: Northern Lights are natural phenomena and cannot be guaranteed; the tour focuses on giving you the best possible chance under the conditions.

    What to bring
Warm winter clothing that is wind‑ and waterproof (jacket, pants, warm mid‑layer, thermals, warm hat and mittens), sturdy shoes or boots, camera/tripod if you want photos, and extra batteries for your electronics.
You will spend time outside at each stop, even in cold conditions, so good layering is essential.

    Safety and conditions
Your guide monitors forecasts and chooses the safest and darkest spots available. Travel insurance is recommended, and the main goal is always your safety and comfort while maximizing your chances to see the dancing aurora.
