What you can expect

  • Begin your adventure with a convenient pickup from your hotel. Head out of town to explore the Arctic wilderness, focusing on spotting wildlife and enjoying the natural beauty of the region.

During the polar summer, look for Arctic animals like birds, Svalbard reindeer, and the Arctic fox. Make several scenic photo stops along the way to capture the Arctic landscape and its fascinating inhabitants.

Throughout the journey, your guide will share insights about Arctic wildlife and life in this remote polar environment.

In early May, see ducks and snow buntings returning to Svalbard. Birdwatchers will be in their element, with thousands of seabirds nesting along the cliffs. The rich birdlife in the valley will start to bloom from May, and you will be aware not to disturb the aggressive Arctic terns.

Spot the polar fox, and if you're lucky, see a polar fox cub ready to emerge from the den in late May or June. Sometimes, you can also spot the Svalbard rock ptarmigan in the wilderness. The hen is in camouflage as it changes into the summer plumage in April/May, whereas the male rock ptarmigan retains the white plumage until July and will therefore be easier to spot in the rocky terrain.

In addition, some years, you may have the chance to see a walrus colony outside town. Previously, they have arrived for their visit around the middle of June. Of course, this cannot be guaranteed.

One of the most famous wildlife animals is the Svalbard reindeer. You can spot them walking around in town, but often they are grazing on the tundra all year round, and the open valleys around will provide a fantastic Arctic landscape photography.

After enjoying a warm drink while watching the landscape and looking for wildlife, return to your hotel with your camera filled with memories from the tour.
