What you can expect

  • Meet your Dongba master and learn about Naxi history, Dongba religion, and the origin of Dongba pictographs—often called “wood marks and stone traces.”

Decode Dongba symbols and learn basic characters for sun, moon, mountain, water, human, love, and blessing. Understand how pictures turn into words and the philosophy behind each symbol.

Use traditional tools to write and paint Dongba characters. The master will correct your strokes and help you design your own piece. Finish your personalized Dongba artwork—your name, a motto, or a lucky phrase. Dry and package it to take home.

Ask questions, take photos with your master and artwork, and conclude this unforgettable cultural experience.
