What you can expect

Embark on an off-road Land Rover expedition through the Laurisilva Forest, then enjoy a rewarding hike to Pico do Arieiro’s summit for breathtaking views of Madeira. Continue along the levada canals, where local farmers harvest sugar cane, before reaching the coastal village of Caniçal.

Prepare for a full-day adventure, be sure to pack a bottle of water with a few snacks before meeting your tour guide at your hotel lobby. Departing from Funchal, your adventure begins with a drive into the Laurisilva Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its mild subtropical climate makes exploring this 40-million-year-old forest a delight, with ancient trees plunging into valleys and waterfalls cascading from cliffs, creating a magical atmosphere.

After touring the forest, head out on foot to reach the summit of Pico do Arieiro where panoramic views of Madeira Island await. Next, visit the Miradouro do Guindaste viewpoint at Madeira’s northeastern tip, where dramatic sea cliffs meet the Atlantic Ocean.

Continue south to Porto da Cruz, home to one of Madeira’s oldest Catholic parishes, overlooked by the majestic Penha de Águia, a refuge for endangered seabirds.

Finally, visit Caniçal, a historic 15th-century fishing village on the eastern coast. Its stark, rugged landscape contrasts with the lush forests to the west, offering a peaceful atmosphere before your return trip.
