Local Spirit is a fully registered Mauritian company approved by the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) and, since 2014, works exclusively with licensed guides from Le Morne village, ensuring a respectful, safe, and deeply authentic experience. The route is managed at a steady pace, with full guide support on steeper and exposed sections.
We meet at the base of Le Morne in the early morning, where you meet your local guide. During summer months, departure is earlier to avoid heat exposure, as the mountain has little shade.
The Ascent
The Le Morne Brabant guided hike begins with a steady walk through coastal forest, gradually opening to beautiful views over the turquoise lagoon. Early in the hike, your guide introduces the rich cultural heritage and traditional medicinal plants of Le Morne, helping you understand why this UNESCO mountain is both ecologically and historically unique.
Higher up, the trail becomes more challenging, with rocky sections and short scrambling where hands are used. Your guide demonstrates safe foot placement, provides support where needed, and ensures no one is rushed or left behind.
✨ Then comes the moment most hikers never forget, as the lagoon suddenly opens beneath you, revealing the full iconic panorama of Le Morne.
This is not a technical climb, and anyone with normal to good fitness can complete the hike.
The Story of Le Morne
Along the way, your guide shares the powerful history of Le Morne, once a refuge for maroons: enslaved people who escaped plantations and hid in these cliffs. You’ll understand why this mountain became a symbol of resistance and Mauritian identity.
The Viewpoint Reward
