After picking you up at your hotel or airbnb in Oaxaca City at the agreed time, we will drive approximately 35 minutes to the starting point of the tour, which can be in Monte Alban or in Santa Maria Atzompa.
*Starting in Monte Alban: This option is recommended when you want to visit the most important archaeological site in Oaxaca. Once we arrive at Monte Alban you will have enough time to visit it while our guides prepare the bicycles (entrance fees and guide in Monte Alban are not included in the cost of the tour). Once you have finished your tour in Monte Alban, we will start the bike tour. The first part is a descent on the main road that leads to Monte Alban (This first part is not done in high tourist season for safety reasons). The descent is quite fast, so it is not recommended for people with little experience. There is a lot you can do afterwards without risking your safety.
*Starting in Santa María Atzompa: Atzompa is a town of artisans, famous not only for its green ceramic products, but also for the use of ancestral techniques in ceramics that have been maintained since pre-Hispanic times. If you wish, you can visit the local handicrafts market while the guides prepare the bicycles. Once prepared, we will begin the bike tour. The first part of the tour is flat on paved roads, then we will cross some towns in the area on dirt and paved rural roads with small ascents and descents perfect for those who like to make some physical effort.
At some strategic points we will make stops to rehydrate, eat fruit and continue the tour. If there is interest in visiting a local wood carving workshop (Alebrijes) we will head to San Antonio Arrazola, here you can visit a local museum to admire and learn about the history of the alebrijes, you can also purchase the figure that you like at a fair price. If you are not interested in the wooden figures, we will continue through some hills where you can enjoy panoramic views and enjoy the tranquility of the area until we reach the next point of interest, the Ex-convent of Cuilapam where you will be able to appreciate an unfinished architectural complex dating from the end of the 16th century (On special occasions access may be closed to the public).
After visiting this interesting site, the last part of the tour begins. We will cross some neighborhoods of Cuilapam and then ride on dirt roads that pass through farmland to reach Zaachila where we will enjoy its rich and famous typical Oaxacan gastronomy, as well as the delicious natural fruit ice-creams that give name to this tour “las nieves” (the ice-cream tour).
The return to the city is done in our support vehicle and takes approximately 40 min. depending on traffic.
