What you can expect
“Where can I eat the best bifana in Lagos?” It’s one of the questions we hear the most at The Kitchen… and our answer might surprise you: right here — when you make it yourself with our cooking instructor Corinne.
This experience is all about Portugal’s most iconic and beloved sandwich, but also about everything that surrounds it — the flavours, the rituals, the shared table, and that relaxed, joyful way of eating that defines Portuguese culture.
As soon as you arrive, we get straight to what really matters: flavour. The first thing you’ll learn is how to properly marinate the pork for your bifana, so it can rest and absorb all those rich flavours while we prepare the rest of the meal. By the time we cook it, it will be juicy, tender, and absolutely irresistible.
Right after that, we move on to dessert — yes, dessert comes early here (for a very good reason!). You’ll prepare a creamy, cinnamon-scented rice pudding, one of Portugal’s most comforting classics. You can have a little taste… but just a little!
Otherwise, you might get too full and miss out on everything else we’re about to cook — and trust us, that would be a dangerous mistake.
From there, we dive into the world of Portuguese petiscos. You’ll cook a rich and comforting Algarvian tomato stew, full of sun-ripened flavour, and experience the unforgettable moment when black pork chouriço is grilled over the flame — sizzling, smoky, and impossible not to love.
And then comes a question for you: when was the last time you had proper homemade fries? The kind that are crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and made from scratch? At The Kitchen, we make sure your bifana is served the right way — with real homemade fries, just like it should be.
During the class, you’ll enjoy water, wine, and beer (around two drinks per person… although we tend to be a bit generous — we just don’t want you leaving The Kitchen too tipsy ).
Finally, everything comes together: your perfectly cooked bifana, served the way locals love it. And to finish, dessert is served properly, with a beloved Portuguese liqueur over ice — simple, authentic, and exactly how we enjoy it.
This is more than a cooking class. It’s your answer to the famous bifana question, a sensory journey through Portuguese flavours, and a moment to slow down, cook, eat, drink, and connect — just like we do in Portugal.
