What you can expect
Begin your experience in the quiet early morning of Gion, before Kyoto comes to life.
You will start with an introduction to traditional Japanese bento culture—where a bento is not simply a meal, but a reflection of seasonality, balance, and heartfelt care for the person who will eat it.
Using a selection of traditional Japanese side dishes prepared in advance, you will learn how to thoughtfully arrange ingredients with attention to color, balance, and visual harmony. Rather than focusing on cooking techniques, this experience invites you to create your own KAWAII character bento, such as a bear or a rabbit, commonly known in Japan as Kyara-bento.
This is not a typical cooking class.
It is a gentle, creative experience that allows you to feel the aesthetic philosophy behind bento-making—an everyday art that Japanese people have cherished for generations.
As a fully private experience, this activity is ideal for couples and families, allowing you to relax and create meaningful memories at your own pace.
Once your bento is complete, enjoy a short 2-minute walk to Maruyama Park, a quiet garden area located just behind Yasaka Shrine. Surrounded by greenery and fresh morning air, you will enjoy a peaceful picnic before the crowds arrive.
Although Maruyama Park is a popular sightseeing destination, the early morning offers an entirely different atmosphere—calm, spacious, and deeply relaxing.
In case of rain, your picnic will take place indoors in a calm and comfortable setting.
