Example Curriculum of the Decorative Sushi Roll Experience Class
Greetings and Orientation
We’ll begin with a brief introduction to the history of Kyoto, Japanese cuisine, and the unique features of decorative sushi rolls. Today’s design (e.g., floral or animal motifs) will also be showcased here.
Basics of Decorative Sushi Rolls
We’ll cover the essential ingredients and tools, such as sushi rice, nori, and bamboo mats, along with tips on color and shape selection, rice preparation, and the Japanese philosophy of “cooking with the five senses.”
Hands-On Practice: Basic Sushi Roll
The instructor will demonstrate a basic roll technique (e.g., a round futomaki roll), and participants will try it themselves. You’ll also learn slicing and presentation techniques.
Hands-On Practice: Decorative Sushi Roll
Create a themed design, such as cherry blossoms or animal patterns. Learn ingredient combinations and rolling techniques to make beautiful patterns.
Tasting Time
Enjoy the decorative sushi rolls you’ve made, along with traditional Japanese condiments like soy sauce and wasabi. Capture the memories with a commemorative photo.
We provide experiences in Japanese and English every day.
Additionally, sessions in Chinese (Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays) and Ukrainian/Russian (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays) are available.
French-speaking staff can also be arranged upon request, but prior confirmation is required.
