What you can expect
This is not a tour that simply cycles between famous sights. It is an e-bike experience built around Kyoto’s water culture and everyday local routes—quiet lanes, riverside paths, and hands-on stops you do yourself. Your guide is a Kyoto local who runs SunnyCycle, and this route follows the same streets we ride in daily life.
Meet your guide at SunnyCycle Shijo Shop in central Kyoto. After check-in, we will adjust your e-bike to fit you and go over the basics so you can ride comfortably and safely.
We start by heading toward Nashinoki Shrine, a place locals visit to collect spring water. You will draw fresh spring water into an original SunnyCycle bottle (yours to keep) and carry it with you as your drinking water during the ride.
From there, we cycle toward the Kamo River and follow the riverside paths through the city. Along the way, your guide points out how residents use the riverbanks in daily life, and we choose quieter lanes whenever possible.
Next, we visit Shimogamo Shrine to try mizu-mikuji (water fortune). Dip the paper into water and the writing appears—an interactive tradition that keeps the “water” theme tangible, not just a story.
After Shimogamo, we continue toward Higashiyama using backstreets and local lanes rather than staying only on main tourist roads. We visit representative sites such as Honen-in, Nanzen-ji, and Heian Shrine, focusing on the transitions between neighborhoods—how everyday streets link daily life with historic places. An e-bike helps you ride comfortably, including gentle slopes around temple areas, while keeping the experience relaxed.
Crowd levels and traffic conditions can change day by day, so the exact streets and visit order may be adjusted on the day to keep the ride smooth and safe, while maintaining the overall structure and key experiences.
The tour ends back at SunnyCycle Shijo Shop. The experience is approximately 4 hours. Participants should be comfortable riding a bicycle in an urban environment. Please wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes, and bring weather protection as needed.
