What you can expect
This is not traditional bonsai.
This is RE BONSAI™.
Discover how Japan’s traditional bonsai culture has evolved into contemporary art during a unique hands-on workshop in beautiful Arashiyama, Kyoto.
RE BONSAI™ is created using real bonsai trees that have been carefully preserved and artistically redesigned. Unlike traditional living bonsai, your finished artwork requires no watering, soil, or ongoing maintenance, allowing you to enjoy it for years as a distinctive interior art piece.
With guidance from friendly local artists, you will choose from colorful preserved materials and create a completely original design. Select the colors, textures, and arrangement that best express your personality and gradually bring your own RE BONSAI™ artwork to life.
During the workshop, you will also learn about the cultural meaning of bonsai in Japan. Bonsai is associated with harmony, patience, longevity, prosperity, and good fortune, making your creation more than just a souvenir.
The experience takes place in Arashiyama, one of Kyoto’s most celebrated cultural districts, known for its bamboo grove, historic temples, traditional streets, and beautiful natural scenery. It is the perfect setting for discovering both traditional Japanese aesthetics and modern creativity.
No previous art or bonsai experience is required. Our staff will guide you step by step, making the workshop suitable for solo travelers, couples, friends, and families.
Your completed artwork is compact and lightweight, so it can generally be carried home by hand, in carry-on luggage, or inside a suitcase. However, Australia has particularly strict quarantine regulations, so travelers returning to Australia should confirm the latest import requirements before departure.
Take home more than a souvenir—take home a one-of-a-kind piece of Japanese art created by you in Arashiyama.
