What is the tour about?
We pick you up early in the morning, to go to Kohunlich Mayan ruins, famous for still preserving their stucco sculptures, real jewels from the Mayas.
Drive is about an hour from Bacalar town or Chetumal town, going through the rural areas in the south of Quintana Roo State. From here we begin with the historical introduction.
Once at the site, you will see the Kohune palm trees that create the singular forest in the place. Then we will start the tour, in the origins of Kohunlich, periods of occupation, heydays and collapse. Also exploring the initial buildings and squares to learn about their usages. Talking about the Classical Mayans' lifestyle, their believes, thoughts and special worldview they created, among other topics, but it all depends on how much you are willing to know of course.
initially the exploration Will be on buildings and squares, including the ball game, administrative buildings, residences and other minor structures; and as “the cherry on the cake” the Temple of the “Masks” which was the primary ritual temple of the city and which preserves its relief decoration of 5 exposed panels made of stucco, which represent the solar god “Kinich Ajaw”, and from whose top you can look at the green palm forrest that surrounds Kohunlich.
Once this point is over, all that remains is to return to the pickup location in the morning. Not before you have got all your photos and memories throughout the walk.
