Other beauty on this tour is you get to have Coffee experience ., coffee plays a major role in the economy of the country, contributing significantly to foreign exchange earnings and to the monetisation of the rural economy.
Currently, a 400,000 small holder farm families produce it and depend on it for their livelihoods. Coffee was introduced by Germans in early 1900s, it is dominated by mainly ‘bourbon’ type of Arabica coffees.
Rwanda beat eight other competitors to the “Best of the Best” coffee accolade on grounds of the beans’ aromatic richness, complexity, balance, elegance and aroma intensity and strength, according to judges.
Agriculture in general employing about 44.5% of the total population. The industry contributes about 25% to GDP, exports of products, including; coffee, tea, livestock products, cereals & grains, hides & skins, pyrethrum, and horticulture. 83.1% of Rwanda’s agricultural production comes from smallholder farmers.
The country’s coffee was recently competing with beans from Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Guatemala, India, Nicaragua and Honduras, known to be the best producers of coffee in the world.
The competition took place at the United Nations evaluation of the world’s highest quality coffee lots grown in the nine countries.
Once arrived in kibuye more activities awaits like boat ride visiting islands starting from the Napoleon cap Island hike. A small hike for a 1.6km distance. The Island has tons of bats and birds. At the top of the Island you will get the panoramic view of the Lake and the Congo Nile.
