GEOTHERMAL BATHING IN THE HEART OF JCELAND"S HIGHLANDS
Take part in a beloved Icelandic tradition in the unique and remote setting of the highlands. Soak in warm geothermal water, surrounded by stunning mountains. The Highland Baths sit at Highland Base, our village in the mountains of Kerlingarfjöll, surrounded by steaming valleys, glacial rivers, and some of the most striking landscapes in Iceland.
Your admission gives you access to steaming pools, a cold plunge, and a sauna, plus a bar where you can order a refreshing drink to enjoy in the water. The baths sit in the Ásgarður valley, on the banks of the Ásgarðsá river, with open views of the surrounding mountain range. The water is natural mineral water, drawn from the earth near the area's geothermal fields.
ADVENTURE, DINING, AND OVERNIGHT STAYS
A soak here pairs naturally with adventure. Hike through the steaming hot spring valley of Hveradalir, join a guided tour, or explore the trails around the area, then finish the day in the warm water. After a day filled with outdoor activities, nothing compares to relaxing and soaking in the warmth of our baths, surrounded by breathtaking mountain views.
The site at Highland Base features more than the baths. You can dine at Highland Base Restaurant, or stay overnight in the hotel, lodges, or campsite, and wake up in the highlands. In summer, the area is also ideal for a day tour: Kerlingarfjöll is about a three-hour drive from Reykjavík, reachable by car or bus.
