Kattukalai Pilayar Kovil
  • 30m

The temple's origins trace back to the early 19th century during the reign of King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe (1798–1815). According to local folklore, the royal washerman used a small waterfall originating from the Bahirawakanda mountain, located behind the present-day temple site. He reportedly dreamt of the deity Eshwara under a rock, suggesting that a kovil (temple) be built at this site. He communicated this dream to his landlord, Arunasalam Ramanathan Chettiar, who in turn informed King Rajasinghe. The king then instructed the construction of the kovil at this location.
