What you can expect

There's a special stillness to Kanazawa's geisha districts in the early morning. Before the day-trippers arrive, the wooden tea houses, lantern-lit lanes, and quiet riverside streets feel like a window into another era — and that's exactly when we'll explore them together.✨

We'll begin at a local shrine, where you'll learn the simple etiquette of a Japanese pray and the role these sanctuaries play in local life. From there, we'll wander into Kazuemachi, Kanazawa's latest riverside tea-house district, before crossing into the famous lanes of Higashi Chaya. As we walk, I'll share the stories behind these preserved streets and explain what makes Kanazawa's geisha traditions distinct from the better-known geisha culture of Kyoto — from their arts to their atmosphere.

To finish, we'll settle into a café loved by locals and visitors, where you can relax over a drink and pastry! And ask me anything about Kanazawa, Japanese culture, or where to head next on your trip.

As a Kanazawa local — and a former nurse who has lived abroad — I love acting as a bridge between visitors and the city I call home. This is a relaxed, friendly walk in a small group, perfect for travelers who want to slow down, take great photos, and discover a quieter, more local side of Kanazawa.✨
