Experience the Adventure at Jomblang and Pindul Caves: Yogyakarta’s Most Thrilling Natural Attractions

Begin your journey with the ancient wonder of Jomblang Cave, a natural marvel located about 1.5 to 2 hours from Yogyakarta. Keep in mind that only 80 visitors can enter per day, so it’s essential to book in advance, especially during peak season (June to September).
Your adventure begins with a scenic 90-minute drive from Yogyakarta to Jomblang Cave’s parking lot, where you’ll check in at a nearby open hut offering restrooms, coffee, and tea. After check-in, you’ll receive boots and a helmet for your descent, which in total you'll spend around 4 to 5 hours including briefing, descent, tour, and lunch.
A team of guides will harness and lower you into the cave, an exhilarating way to start the day. Capture every moment on the way down, as team photographers will document the experience. Once you reach the bottom, the guides will unfasten your harness and lead you to the next part of the trek.
Inside, follow a muddy and sometimes slippery path toward the heart of the cave. Some rock steps are available, though rain can make them challenging, so be ready for a bit of a trek. We recommend bringing a headlight, as it’s dark inside.
After a 10-15 minute walk, you’ll arrive at the cave’s most magical feature: a beam of sunlight streaming through a hole above, casting a golden glow with leaves drifting slowly into the light. It’s an unforgettable sight that photos can never fully capture.
After soaking in the view, prepare to rappel back up. Watch as a team of men works together to pull each visitor safely to the surface. At the top, freshen up and enjoy a simple lunch as you reflect on the journey, Jomblang Cave is truly a hidden gem, with every muddy step adding to the experience.
Next, journey to Pindul Cave. Once there, venture underground and climb into a tube. Drift through emerald waters, admiring fascinating stalagmites and stalactites. As you exit the cave, float past a waterfall cascading into the Oyo River, a perfect way to end your exploration.
