Explore Hongxingyan—a hidden gem deep within the Qizanggou Hiking Area north of Chengdu. This breathtaking glacial lake, known as the “Sapphire of the Mountains,” sits beneath towering red cliffs, from which Hongxingyan (meaning “Red Star Rock”) derives its name. Less crowded than nearby Jiuzhaigou, it offers a more tranquil and pristine wilderness experience for hikers seeking escape and stunning scenery.

This route is perfect for first-time high-altitude hikers, perfectly combining an easy trek with breathtaking natural landscapes: alpine forests, rhododendron valleys, expansive alpine meadows, majestic ridges, and crystal-clear alpine lakes—all within a relatively short hiking distance.

The trek begins on a gentle boardwalk, passing through stunning alpine views before gradually ascending through beautiful rhododendron forests to reach the mountain pass. Traversing rolling alpine meadows surrounded by towering mountains, you'll eventually reach the magnificent Red Star Rock and its unforgettable azure lake. Each season offers a different view: Spring/Summer: Abundant wildflowers and lush green grass
Autumn: Golden grasslands and crisp mountain air
Winter: Snow-capped peaks and breathtaking alpine scenery
