Minneriya National Park is a protected wildlife area in Sri Lanka’s North Central Province.Renowned for its seasonal elephant gatherings and rich biodiversity, it forms part of the island’s “cultural triangle” of heritage and nature destinations. The park is a key site for wildlife tourism and ecological conservation in the dry zone. Location: North Central Province, Sri Lanka Established: 1997 Area: 8,889 hectares (34.3 square miles) Primary feature: Minneriya Tank (ancient reservoir) Best known for: “The Gathering” of Asian elephants

Kaudulla National Park

The park is best known for its Asian elephants. During the dry season, hundreds of elephants gather around the Kaudulla Tank (reservoir), creating a spectacular wildlife event. Hurulu Eco Park

Hurulu Eco Park is part of the larger Hurulu Forest Reserve, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1977. It was opened for eco-tourism around 2008 and is managed by Sri Lanka’s Forest Department. It’s less crowded than famous parks like Minneriya, making it ideal for a calm and natural safari experience.
