Starting directly in Interlaken, this classic mountain hike leaves the town behind within five minutes and climbs through the forest high above the town.
The trail gains elevation quickly, through steep woodland paths, with a few flatter sections along the way. About halfway up, we pass a small farmhouse with a fountain — a perfect place to refill water and take a short break before continuing the ascent.
Higher up, the forest begins to open and the first views appear between the trees. Soon we reach Harder Kulm 1321m, the famous viewpoint above Interlaken.
From the viewing platform, the panorama is spectacular. Below us, Lake Thun and Lake Brienz stretch out on both sides of Interlaken, while straight ahead the great peaks of the Jungfrau region rise into view, including the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau.
At the summit there is also a restaurant during the operating season, making it a great place to relax and enjoy the scenery before descending.
Harder Kulm offer a great flexibility, with several trail options for both ascent and descent. Depending on pace, fitness level, weather, and how adventurous we want the day to be, we can choose routes ranging from very steep to more moderate. If preferred, the historic Harderbahn funicular can also be used for the return when in operation.
Since this is a private hike, the entire experience remains flexible and can be adapted to your pace, preferences, and the overall conditions.
