Day 1: Cusco – Km 104 – Sun Gate – Aguas Calientes
Approx. 4:00 AM: Pick-up from your hotel in Cusco and transfer by van to the Ollantaytambo train station.
Approx. 7:00 AM: Train journey to Km 104 (Chachabamba), the starting point of the trek.
8:00 AM: Start of the trek. Visit to the Chachabamba archaeological site.
8:30 AM – 12:00 PM: Moderate 3- to 4-hour ascent to the impressive Wiñay Wayna complex (2,650 meters above sea level), where we will have a packed lunch.
1:00 PM – 3:00 PM: Hike through a section of highland rainforest to the Inti Punku (Sun Gate), where you will have your first panoramic view of Machu Picchu.
3:30 PM – 4:30 PM: Descent to the citadel; classic photos.
5:00 PM: Bus down to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo) for dinner and an overnight stay at a reserved hotel.
Day 2: Machu Picchu – Return to Cusco
6:00 AM – 8:00 AM: Upbound bus and admission to the citadel of Machu Picchu for the guided tour (approximately 2 to 3 hours).
10:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Free time and return to the town by bus.
2:30 PM – 6:30 PM: Return train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo, and then onward to Cusco. End of service.
