Prepare for a unique experience that combines stunning natural landscapes with a deep immersion in traditional Cape Verdean culture. The hike departs from the Serra Malagueta Natural Park, one of the highest points on Santiago Island, located at approximately 1,000 meters above sea level. This park is a true ecological sanctuary, home to several endemic species of flora and fauna, as well as offering stunning panoramic views of the mountains, green valleys, and the Atlantic coast.
The route follows ancient trails used by local communities, descending gently through stone paths, plantations, and fertile valleys. Along the trail, visitors can observe traditional rural life in Santiago, with occasional encounters with local farmers and shepherds.
The final destination is the Rabelados Community, a group that preserves a traditional way of life to this day, based on cultural and spiritual resistance to colonialism and the modernization imposed in the past. Upon arrival, visitors are greeted with hospitality and can learn about the history of these unique people, visit traditional homes, art studios, painting and craft workshops, and experience moments of authentic music and spirituality.
