Step into a real Finnish home and learn to cook traditional Finnish food with a local home chef on the beautiful island of Lauttasaari, often called “the happy island.”
This experience is hosted by a native Finn who has a deep understanding of local food traditions, everyday life, and Finnish culture. Along the way, your host shares the stories behind the dishes, interesting facts about the ingredients & Finnish lifestyle, and adds small local surprises to enrich the experience.
You’ll prepare a classic Finnish home-style menu using fresh, seasonal ingredients while getting an authentic glimpse into how Finns eat, live, and gather around food.
Agenda:
- Welcome drinks, introductions, and an overview of the recipes
- Preparing a traditional creamy salmon soup
- Cooking Finnish meatballs with creamy mashed potatoes and lingonberry jam
- Baking “korvapuusti”, the beloved Finnish cinnamon buns
- Enjoying the meal together
Cooking is done in small groups to ensure everyone gets a hands-on experience. Each participant takes responsibility for one dish while also closely following the preparation of the other dishes, so every part of the menu becomes familiar. For private events the menu can be tweaked to fit your liking, please express this desire well in advance (through the messages) to the host.
Everything is prepared for your arrival. Your host provides clear step-by-step guidance, hands-on support, and written recipes so you can easily recreate the dishes at home.
No prior cooking experience is required. Basic kitchen skills, such as safe knife handling and awareness around hot surfaces, are recommended.
