What you can expect
Welcome to Heilbronn, a city that combines Swabian virtues with Franconian industriousness. Heilbronn is much appreciated for its beautiful location on Necker River and its historical buildings but also for its Imperial history, modern art, and classic wine. Wine is important here. The famous german writer Goethe himself named 12 thousand acres of vineyards around the city, and the first Reich conference of German viticulture took place in this city in 1937. Young Theodor Heuss wrote his thesis on “Viticulture and the Winegrower Estate in Heilbronn am Neckar” in 1905, and when the Free Democratic Party was founded after the war, Heuss became its first chairman to then later rise to the office of the first President of West Germany, between 49 and 59.
Pass the astronomical clock on the façade of the old Town Hall in the Market Square. Built in 1580, this impressive astronomical clock shows the seven weekdays using the Sun, the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn.
Discover the highlights of the Heilbronn, stroll the streets of the Old Town area and understand why the city on the river Neckar is charming and full of life. Also, find out more about the home of Käthchen, the heroine of Heinrich von Kleist's medieval play, one of the passions of the people of Heilbronn. Käthchenhaus is a gothic stone house built in the 14th century. Across Käthchenhaus you will also see House “Zehender am Markt” which is also one of the landmarks of Heilbronn.
