Experience Heidelberg: The perfect combination of culture, history and panorama
Heidelberg is one of Germany's most beautiful cities and captivates visitors from all over the world. Its unique location in the Neckar Valley, the historic old town and the majestic castle ruins form a backdrop that once inspired the poets of the Romantic period. This tour combines the city's absolute highlights in an unforgettable day-long program – from the lively streets in the valley to the wind-swept heights of the Königstuhl.
On to the summit: The Königstuhl
We start the day with a comfortable ride up to the Königstuhl. Once you reach an altitude of 568 meters, you can escape the hustle and bustle of the city. When the weather is good, Heidelberg's local mountain offers breathtaking views of the Neckar Valley, the Rhine Plain and sometimes even as far as the Vosges Mountains.
Down to the castle by cable car
The Heidelberg funicular is an attraction in itself. The upper, nostalgic funicular takes us on a slow, steep ride to Molkenkur. From there, take the lower funicular, one of the most modern funiculars in Germany, to continue on to the castle in just a few minutes. Heidelberg Castle, the epitome of German Romanticism, stands majestically above the city. A walking tour through the castle courtyard and the castle garden reveals the eventful history of the former residence of the Electors Palatine.
World records and the history of pharmacy in the castle grounds
Two special highlights await within the castle walls: In the King's Hall building, there is access to the cellar, which houses the legendary Great Barrel. This world's largest walkable wine barrel was made in the 18th century from 130 oak trunks and holds over 219,000 liters of wine. Right afterwards, the German Pharmacy Museum invites you on a journey through time. The exhibits offer fascinating insights into the history of medicine from ancient times to the 21st century.
Through the Baroque Old Town
After a relaxing lunch break, join us for a guided stroll through the historic old town. As you stroll through the cobblestone streets, you can feel the lively atmosphere of this traditional university city. The route takes you past Baroque townhouses, cozy cafés and buildings steeped in history. Highlights: Heiliggeistkirche (Holy Spirit Church), Alte Brücke (Old Bridge), Marktplatz (Market Square) and more… Of course, you will also have time here for your own explorations or to enjoy some culinary delights.
The grand finale: The Philosopher's Walk
We will end the day on the opposite side of the Neckar, where we will set off along the famous Philosophenweg (Philosophers' Walk). This scenic trail, blessed with a favorable climate, owes its name to the Heidelberg scholars who once strolled here. From here, you can enjoy the classic postcard view: the deep blue ribbon of the Neckar, the Old Bridge and the castle, which glows in the sunlight – and we say goodbye to Heidelberg with a glass of Palatinate wine.
