Halle (Saale) boasts over 1,200 years of history – and it is precisely this diversity that you will discover on this classic 2-hour tour of the old town. Together with a guide certified by the Federal Association of Tour Guides, you will experience the most important landmarks in the center and learn how architecture, music, and the city's history continue to shape the cityscape to this day.

The meeting point is the Händel monument on Marktplatz. This is where your journey through time begins: You will learn about the origins of the square and experience how Halle's famous “Five Towers” and the Gothic Marienkirche define the panorama. There is an optional short guided tour inside the Marktkirche (with prior booking). There are also anecdotes from the life of Georg Friedrich Handel, the answer to the question of where the name “Roter Turm” comes from, and the significance of the Roland statue.

You will then continue through winding old town lanes to the birthplace of Georg Friedrich Handel (Händelhaus) and to Halle Cathedral, whose history and architecture are as eventful as they are exciting. There is an optional short guided tour inside the cathedral (depending on the opening hours). Afterwards, the walking tour takes you to the Moritzburg (courtyard), an important place for art and city history and at the same time the youngest of all the castles on the Saale.

Via squares and streets from the “Gründerzeit” period, you will finally reach Universitätsplatz (University Square) with the neoclassical Löwengebäude (Lion Building).
