What you can expect

Discover the majestic Royal Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso, one of the great jewels of the Spanish monarchy's heritage, nestled in a stunning natural setting at the foot of the Sierra de Guadarrama mountain range. This is an essential experience to understand the history, art, and court life of the 18th century at one of the most impressive monumental complexes in Spain, accompanied throughout by explanations in Spanish from a specialist guide.

Built in the 18th century, this palatial complex was conceived as a country retreat by Philip V, the first Bourbon monarch of Spain, and evolved into an architectural and artistic landmark inspired by the Palace of Versailles.

During the tour of the interior, we will enter the main floor, where the royal family spent their daily lives, and visit some of its most iconic spaces, such as the Main Staircase, the Portrait Gallery, and the former Royal Bedroom. The Tapestry Museum deserves special attention, as it houses one of the most significant collections worldwide and offers insight into the artistic, symbolic, and political importance of these textiles at court.

During the tour, we will pass through rooms richly decorated with frescoes, Oriental porcelain, lacquerwork, and large mirrors, which bear witness to the sophistication of the Bourbon court and the cultural influence of Isabel de Farnesio on the development of the palace. We will also explore lesser-known aspects of court life, such as the role of music and the figure of the famous Farinelli, who played a key role in the King's personal circle.

On the ground floor, we will tour the former sculpture gallery, which was designed as a space for strolling and displaying art, before heading outside to the area next to the Royal Collegiate Church. There, we will be given an introduction to the historic gardens, renowned for their monumental fountains and French-inspired design.

Book now and round out your experience with exclusive benefits: at the end of your tour, you will enjoy special discounts on purchases of local products and on restaurant menus in Segovia. You'll also be able to enjoy exclusive tastings and snacks.

Important information: The Tapestry Museum is temporarily closed for renovation. Instead, we will see some of the collector's items belonging to King Philip V and Queen Isabella of Farnese, and we will explore the interior of the Royal Collegiate Church, where the monarchs are laid to rest. Please note that the tour itinerary may be modified.
