Discover the historical sights in Armenia. Learn about local culture and religion at three monasteries, visit Hagpati and Sanahin, and the old monastery of Akhtala is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Hagpati and Sanahini monasteries are closely connected and are 40 minutes away from each other. Legend has it that both monasteries were built by father and son masons, Sanahin was built earlier by his father. The name says it all: Sanahin literally means “he is older than others”. We will also get to know traditional Armenian cuisine, where we will be hosted by a traditional Armenian family.

The etymology of the name Akhtali is believed to be of Turkish origin, meaning white gate. Phhindzahank literally means copper mine. The partially destroyed Akhtali fortress was built on the foundation of the Bronze and Iron Age at the end of the 10th century by the Kyurikids.
