This tour is designed to be a true uplifting experience for body and soul… so make sure you wear comfortable shoes, because we're about to start climbing.
First, we will see the city from below, as it appears tiered on the slopes of Mount Ingino. The CHURCH OF SAINT FRANCIS welcomes you to Gubbio, where we will discover why SAINT FRANCIS tamed the wolf. We will also see the city’s old suburbs, which are used as a dye house, with a channel for dyeing and rinsing fabrics and an area for drying and ironing. This is the SAN MARTIN NEIGHBORHOOD.
The BARGELLO FOUNTAIN graces the central square, which is bordered on one side by the former headquarters of the local police chief, the BARGELLO PALACE, and runs almost parallel to VIA DEI CONSOLI. Walk around the fountain three times, and you'll consider yourself a true “loco” of Gubbio.
Piazza Grande is a 14th-century hanging square, an open space that proudly displays the Palazzo dei Consoli, named after the city’s former politicians.
Finally, there is the Cathedral, with its magnificent views: below lies the city of the Gubbini, and above our heads towers the BASILICA OF SAN UBALDO, the finishing line of the CARRERA DEI CIRIOS (Candles Race) held every May 15th.
Finally, we will enter the Ducal Palace of Federico da Montefeltro: a 15th-century nobleman, warrior, and patron of the arts. Here, an exact replica has been created of the studio where he meditated and pursued his favorite hobbies, a wooden study featuring the symbols most dear to the Lord of the Palace. The original is now in New York, and the exact replica is housed in this magnificent palace.
