Activity itinerary

Grey's Monument

  • 5m
Meet your guide at Newcastle’s iconic landmark, a starting point for discovering the city’s past and the people who shaped it. Find secrets hidden in plain sight. Hear about a town, a world ruled by darkness. Learn about a local man whose patience and brilliance helped illuminate the world.

Theatre Royal (Pass by)

Walk past the magnificent Theatre Royal and down Grey Street, lined with elegant Georgian buildings.

Old George Yard

  • 4m
Stroll along the characterful High Bridge street, where historic buildings and independent shops reveal another side of Newcastle. Look back to a time when you could be sold into a ‘job for life’. A job where your work area was barely the size of a sheet of paper

Cloth Market

  • 4m
Explore the historic Bigg Market, where bustling markets and lively pubs have shaped Newcastle’s colourful character. We’ll hear how society’s views change over time. Even within living memory.

St Nicholas Square

  • 5m
Admire St Nicholas’ Cathedral from outside, a striking feature of Newcastle’s skyline. An opportunity to take a seat and hear of arguably the bleakest time in Newcastle’s history

Quayside

  • 25m
Take in Newcastle’s picturesque Quayside, with its iconic bridges and sweeping views across the River Tyne. As we stroll along the Queyside you’ll hear of what’s the loudest sound ever made in Newcastle and how it came to be one of the most terrifying events in history of Tyneside. Be shocked by more jobs that killed you. A one in a lifetime party on the river. The original Geordie ‘bad boys’ and the jobs only they could do.
