Located at an altitude of 2,860 meters (9,383 feet), it’s home to the Tenzing-Hillary Airport, one of the most thrilling airstrips in the world. Most trekkers heading to Everest Base Camp start their journey here. Despite its remote location, Lukla has teahouses, shops, and basic services catering to trekkers and climbers.
Phakding
  • 1d
Phakding is a small village in the Khumbu region of Nepal, situated at 2,610 meters (8,563 feet) along the banks of the Dudh Koshi River. It’s the first overnight stop for most trekkers heading from Lukla to Everest Base Camp. Surrounded by pine forests and mountain views, Phakding offers teahouses, lodges, and a peaceful atmosphere to rest and acclimatize before continuing the trek.
Namche Bazaar
  • 1d
On the second day of the Gokyo Valley Trek, we ascend to Namche Bazaar, located at 3,450 meters. The journey starts early with a delicious breakfast, passing through settlements like Bengkar, Monjo, and Jorsale. Along the way, you'll enjoy stunning views of mountains like Kusum Kanguru and Thamserku. After entering Sagarmatha National Park and having your entry permit checked, a few more hours of walking will bring you to Namche. This vibrant Sherpa town offers a unique cultural experience. Enjoy exploring before heading to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
Namche Bazaar

Known as the gateway to the Everest region, it serves as a key stop for trekkers heading to Everest Base Camp or Gokyo. It offers a variety of accommodations, restaurants, and shops, making it an essential hub for trekkers to acclimatize and rest before continuing their journey.
Phortse Tenga Intersection
  • 12h
  • Admission ticket included
Today, we leave the classic Everest Base Camp trail and head towards Gokyo Valley. After breakfast in Namche Bazaar, we begin our 4–5 hour trek to Dole via Phortse Thenga. The trail passes landmarks like the Tenzing Norgay Memorial Stupa, Kyangjuma, and Sansa. At Sansa, we diverge from the EBC route and ascend to Mong La Pass, home to the sacred Khumbila. Along the way, there may be chances to spot wildlife such as musk deer, Himalayan Thar, and pheasants. We continue the steady climb and reach Dole for an overnight stay.
Machhermo
  • 12h
On the fifth day, we trek from Phortse Thenga to Machhermo, reaching an altitude of 4,480 meters in about 5–6 hours. Due to the high elevation, trekkers should watch for signs of altitude sickness and maintain a steady pace. The trail begins with a ridge climb and passes through scenic villages like Lhabarma and Luza, offering stunning views of peaks such as Kantega, Cho Oyu, Thamserku, and the Ngozumpa Glacier. Upon reaching Machhermo, you'll also see the Machhermo Hamlet and the stream originating from Kyajo Ri and Phari Lapche.
Gokyo Lakes
  • 12h
  • Admission ticket included
From Machhermo, the trail ascends to the stunning Gokyo Lakes, a group of six glacial lakes at 4,750 meters. This is one of the most challenging yet rewarding sections of the Gokyo Valley Trek, so trekkers should follow guide instructions carefully. The 5–6 hour walk takes you past the first lake, Longpongo, then Taboche Tsho, which features a Lama’s footprint on a stone. Finally, you’ll reach Dudh Pokhari, the third lake and the main highlight. Surrounded by peaceful beauty and dramatic Himalayan views, the Gokyo Lakes offer a truly unforgettable experience.
Gokyo Ri
  • 12h
  • Admission ticket included
On the seventh day, trekkers explore the beautiful Gokyo Valley and take a scenic hike to Gokyo Ri (5,357 meters), the highest point of the trek. If the weather allows, the sunrise hike offers breathtaking views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho-Oyu, and more. If conditions aren't ideal early, the hike is done after breakfast. In addition to Gokyo Ri, trekkers are encouraged to visit the fourth lake, Thonak Tsho, and, if physically fit, continue to the fifth lake, Ngozumpa Tsho, for even more stunning glacial scenery.
Dole
  • 12h
On the eighth day, we begin our descent from Gokyo Valley to Dole. The downhill trail is easier and more relaxed compared to the uphill climb. After an early breakfast, we retrace our steps, passing two lakes, Machhermo, and the villages of Luza and Kele before reaching Dole. This charming village offers warm hospitality and a glimpse into the traditional lifestyle of the region, making it a pleasant stop after the challenging days of ascent.
Namche Bazaar
  • 12h
On the ninth day, we return to the classic Everest Base Camp trail, trekking from Dole back to Namche Bazaar. The familiar route takes about 6 to 7 hours and passes through Phortse Thanga—home to a monastery linked to Lama Sange—as well as the villages of Khumjung, Khunde, and Syangboche. Though we've walked this path before, the journey feels rewarding as we descend. Reaching Namche Bazaar again brings a sense of comfort, with its modern amenities like WiFi, ATMs, bakeries, and cozy hotels.
Lukla
  • 12h
On the final day of the trek, we make our way from Namche Bazaar back to Lukla, the starting point of most Khumbu region adventures. After breakfast, we follow a well-established trail, taking about 6 to 7 hours. The route passes through Sagarmatha National Park, Manju, and Phakding, crossing several suspension bridges and scenic Mani Walls. The final stretch to Lukla is gentle and peaceful. Adventure Bound will arrange your overnight stay and dinner at a comfortable lodge in Lukla, marking a restful end to an incredible journey.
Kathmandu (Pass by)
Depending on your flight time, our team will escort you to Lukla Airport. If your flight is in the morning, you’ll arrive in Kathmandu early; otherwise, enjoy a relaxed morning exploring Lukla. The flight to Kathmandu takes about 30 minutes. After days in the mountains, take time to rest or explore the vibrant city life—visit local shops, clubs, or pubs.
