What you can expect
Visit Kyoto, one of the most beautiful cities in Japan, on this tour from Osaka. View ancient relics of culture like Nijo Castle, Kinkaku-ji temple, Kyoto Imperial Palace, Fushimi Inari Shrine, as well as Sanjusangendo and Kiyomizu-dera temples. In between sites, take a break to enjoy a local lunch.
After pickup from your hotel, join your guide on a train ride to Kyoto and make your way to the 16th-century Nijo Castle. Hear the floors squeaking, intended as a security measure, and view the elegant paintings on sliding doors. Next, visit Kinkaku-ji, a National Special Historic Site, and marvel at the 3-story temple with 2 stories covered in pure gold leaf. Inside, each floor has a different architectural style.
Continue to the 4,300-foot (1,300-m) Kyoto Imperial Palace and admire the low roof lines and wooden structures in classical Japanese style. Stop by a local restaurant for a delicious lunch. Afterward, head to the Fushimi Inari Shrine where you pass vermilion torii gates and fox god statues.
At the Sanjusangendo Temple see the main deity of the temple, Thousand Armed Kannon—deemed a National Treasure of Japan—and 1,000 life-sized statues of the Thousand Armed Kannon. Lastly, visit Kiyomizu-dera, a temple built without a single nail, and admire the complex's beautiful waterfall flowing from nearby hills. Your tour wraps up in the evening at the Osaka Station.
