What you can expect
Discover the city of Trier, a hidden treasure located on the river Moselle. Possibly the oldest city in Germnay, Trier was a provincial capital during ancient Rome, with over 70,000 inhabitants. Today the city is home to 8 UNESCO-listed sites, an unprecedented opportunity for lovers of history.
Travel to Frankfurt City Center and drive to Trier, located amidst the charming river scenery along Moselle. The city offers a plethora of historical wonders without being overcrowded by tourists. Witness the best-preserved Roman town gate north of the Alps, “Porta Nigra,” which was built around 180 AD. The gate was constructed from large sandstone blocks weighing up to 6 tons (5.4 metric tons).
Marvel at the huge Basilica, containing the throne hall of the emperor Constantine. Witness the Imperial Baths and the Roman Amphitheater, site of cruel games between animals and gladiators, with a capacity of 20,000 seats.
Choose to visit the Church of our Lady, the oldest Gothic church in Germany, and containing the Holy Robe, a precious relic and the tunic of Christ. Finally, see the Electoral Palace, located next to the Basilica, considered one of the most beautiful Rococo palaces in the world. Take time to enjoy private strolls along the river banks of Moselle.
