What you can expect
Begin your day with a morning stop in Mtskheta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Visit Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, the spiritual heart of Georgian Orthodox Christianity, built in the 11th century on the site where the robe of Christ is said to be buried.
Admire the cathedral's towering stone walls, ancient frescoes, and sacred atmosphere. Then, head west to Gori. Stop at Uplistsikhe, an ancient rock-hewn town carved directly into the cliffs above the Mtkvari River, dating back over three thousand years.
Explore the cave city that once housed temples, a theatre, a pharmacy, and an entire urban civilization within its stone walls. Just a short drive away, visit the Stalin Museum, which houses an extensive collection of personal belongings, photographs, documents, and the original wooden house where Stalin was born.
Enjoy a traditional Georgian lunch along the way, with warm bread fresh from a tone oven, hearty soups, grilled meats, and seasonal vegetable dishes served at a welcoming local restaurant.
In the afternoon, head east into the rolling hills of Kakheti and up to the enchanting town of Sighnaghi, known as the City of Love. Stroll its cobbled streets, admire the colorful balconied houses, visit the Bodbe Monastery where Saint Nino, the woman who brought Christianity to Georgia, is buried, and finish with a glass of local Kakheti wine.
