What you can expect

Your day begins with a morning pickup from your hotel in Suzhou. Sit back and enjoy a comfortable ride of about 1.5 hours through the Zhejiang countryside as your guide introduces the history of Wuzhen, one of the most famous water towns in China.

East Scenic Area (Dongzha): Arrive at Wuzhen’s East Scenic Area, a place that feels like stepping back in time. Narrow stone lanes wind past traditional houses with black-tiled roofs, while canals cut quietly through the town. This part of Wuzhen preserves the authentic lifestyle of the locals. You’ll visit the Former Residence of Mao Dun, the celebrated Chinese writer whose life and works are closely tied to Wuzhen. Explore the Hundred-Bed Museum, home to exquisite antique beds carved with flowers, birds, and auspicious symbols that showcase the craftsmanship of Jiangnan artisans. Step into the Wine Workshop, where you can see how traditional rice wine is brewed using time-honored techniques, with the aroma of fermentation filling the air. Walking through Dongzha, you’ll not only admire the architecture but also feel the rhythm of daily life that has continued for centuries.

Enjoy a local lunch at a riverside restaurant, with specialties such as Wuzhen’s fish and prawn, and seasonal vegetable dishes.

West Scenic Area (Xizha): In the afternoon, head to Wuzhen’s West Scenic Area, larger and more elegant in atmosphere. Here, ancient bridges and wide canals are framed by traditional houses and teahouses. Visit the Zhaoming Academy, a historic site named after Crown Prince Zhaoming, who compiled one of China’s earliest literary anthologies here. Continue to the Wuzhen Post Office, a century-old building where you can still send postcards stamped with a unique Wuzhen seal — a perfect keepsake from your trip. Stroll along the canal-side walkways, lined with stone bridges and lantern-lit houses, capturing the quintessential beauty of Jiangnan. To complete your experience, take a traditional wooden boat ride, drifting through the narrow waterways as your boatman rows gently under arching bridges. The soft sound of water and the reflection of tiled roofs in the river create the classic “small bridges, flowing water, and homes” atmosphere that makes Wuzhen so enchanting.

After a day immersed in the history, culture, and charm of Wuzhen, relax on the drive back to Suzhou, arriving at your hotel in the early evening.
