Escape the busy streets of Sarajevo and discover one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most unique destinations on a full-day hiking adventure to Lukomir, the country’s highest and most isolated mountain village.
Your journey begins with a comfortable drive from Sarajevo towards the Olympic Mountains, reaching the village of Umoljani, the starting point of your hike. From here, follow scenic mountain trails along the edge of the spectacular Rakitnica Canyon, one of the deepest and most impressive canyons in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
During the hike, enjoy breathtaking views of untouched nature, green mountain landscapes, and the traditional villages scattered throughout the Dinaric Alps. Your local guide will share stories about the history, customs, and way of life of the mountain communities that have preserved their traditions for centuries.
The highlight of the tour is arriving at Lukomir Village, located at an altitude of 1,495 meters. Known as Bosnia and Herzegovina’s highest permanent settlement, Lukomir feels like a living open-air museum where traditional stone houses, handmade wool products, and old customs are still part of everyday life.
Take time to explore the village, meet local people, and experience the unique atmosphere of this remote mountain community. Enjoy a traditional Bosnian lunch prepared with local ingredients (optional/not included) while taking in the incredible views of the surrounding mountains.
After exploring Lukomir, you can enjoy some free time in the village before returning along the mountain route and driving back to Sarajevo.
