What you can expect

  • Leave Riga behind and discover the historic town of Kuldiga on a private day trip through the Latvian countryside.

Your experience begins with convenient pickup directly from your hotel or accommodation in Riga. Relax during the private drive west towards Kurzeme, one of Latvia’s most distinctive historical regions.

Arrive in Kuldiga and explore its beautifully preserved Old Town, which is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Walk through narrow streets lined with historic wooden and stone houses, red-tiled roofs and traditional architecture that reflects the town’s development over many centuries.

Discover the picturesque Alekšupīte stream, which flows directly through the historic centre and adds to Kuldiga’s unique atmosphere.

Continue to the Venta River and Venta Rapid, widely known as the widest natural waterfall in Europe. Enjoy panoramic views of the river and waterfall, take memorable photographs and, depending on the season and water level, perhaps witness fish attempting to jump upstream over the rapid.

Nearby, admire the historic brick bridge over the Venta River, one of Kuldiga’s most recognizable landmarks and an excellent viewpoint over the river and surrounding town.

A special part of the tour is a visit to an authentic local winery in the Kurzeme region.

At the winery, you will have the opportunity to see the vineyards and learn more about local winemaking traditions in Latvia. The visit includes a guided tasting of 10 different locally produced wines, allowing you to discover a wide range of flavours and styles.

The wines may include traditional grape wines as well as distinctive Latvian wines made from local fruits, berries and other regional ingredients.

The tasting is accompanied by local snacks, creating a relaxed and authentic experience and giving you the opportunity to enjoy the wines together with regional flavours.

During the visit, you can also learn more about the winemaking process, the challenges of growing grapes in Latvia’s northern climate and the techniques used by local producers to create their wines.

There will also be time to enjoy Kuldiga at a relaxed pace, take photographs or stop for lunch or refreshments at your own expense.

After experiencing the history, landscapes and local flavours of western Latvia, sit back and relax during your comfortable private journey back to Riga.

This private day trip combines three different sides of Latvia in one memorable experience: UNESCO heritage, beautiful nature and authentic local winemaking.
