From Carrera Bay, we'll set sail through the Francisco Coloane Marine Park, where you'll have the chance to spot majestic humpback whales, as well as cormorants, skuas, petrels, albatrosses, sea lions, and elephant seals, all in an impressive Patagonian setting surrounded by mountains, glaciers, and lush forests.
When we get to Paso Shag, we'll hop into the kayaks to paddle alongside the whales. We have specialized and professional guides who will guarantee a safe and unique experience. Plus, a support boat will be with us at all times for added peace of mind.
Your trip itinerary:
3:45 am – Check-in at the hotel and transfer to the travel agency.
04:05 – Arrive and check in at the agency.
4:20 am – Head to the boarding point, located 50 km south of Punta Arenas.
5:00 am – Boarding in Bahía Carrera.
5:15 am – We'll start sailing, visiting several points of interest:
Fuerte Bulnes
Founded in 1843 by Captain John Williams after taking possession of the Strait of Magellan, in honor of President Manuel Bulnes.
San Isidro Lighthouse
This lighthouse, the southernmost on the American continent, has over 100 years of history. Surrounded by sub-Antarctic forests, it's home to dolphins, sea lions, and unique marine wildlife.
Mount Tarn
In 1834, Charles Darwin climbed Mount Tarn during his expedition on the HMS Beagle, discovering the first ammonites in South America, ancient mollusks with coiled shells.
Bahía Indio
Located 75 km south of Punta Arenas, it was home to a whale oil processing plant. Today, it's home to a growing humpback whale population in the region.
Cape Froward
90 km south of Punta Arenas, this cape is home to the Cruz de los Mares, a tribute to sailors. The English privateer Thomas Cavendish named it because of the difficult waters.
Carlos III Island
Created in 2003, this park is a key biological corridor in the Strait of Magellan, where humpback whales feed and can be spotted in season.
Paso Shag
Inside the Francisco Coloane Marine Park, Paso Shag is a point of great concentration of humpback whales, ideal for observing these majestic animals.
8:00 am – We'll head into the Francisco Coloane Marine Park.
8:30 am – Penguin watching from the deck of the boat.
9:00 AM – Sail from Rupert Island to Charles and Paso Shag Islands.
10:00 AM – Get off the catamaran and hop onto zodiac boats to kayak with the whales (duration: 3 hours).
1:00 pm – Hop back on the catamaran from the zodiac boats.
2:00 pm – Lunch on board.
5:00 PM – Get off the boat and head back to Punta Arenas.
6:00 PM – Arrive in Punta Arenas.
