Your day begins with a pickup from your hotel or a designated meeting point in central Lanzhou. Travel northwest along the upper reaches of the Yellow River. During the drive, your guide introduces the geography of Gansu Province, the Yellow River’s role in Chinese civilization, and the unique landforms you’ll see today. After about 2 hours on the road, arrive at the Yellow River Stone Forest Scenic Area. Transfer to the eco shuttle bus to access the core landscape area.
Yellow River Stone Forest: a rare geological landscape formed by wind erosion and sediment layers over millions of years. Towering stone pillars rise from deep valleys, creating dramatic contrasts between rock formations, desert terrain, and the nearby Yellow River. Guests can walk through the canyon paths, take photos, and enjoy the vast, open scenery.
Continue by private vehicle to Yongtai Ancient City. The drive takes approximately 1.5 hours.
Yongtai Ancient City: a well-preserved Ming Dynasty military fortress built in the distinctive shape of a turtle, earning it the nickname “Turtle City.” Walk along the city walls and through old streets while learning about frontier defense, military life, and settlement history in northwestern China. The surrounding desert landscape offers excellent photo opportunities and a peaceful atmosphere.
Arrive back in Lanzhou in the early evening. Drop-off at your hotel or city center location, marking the end of the tour.
