Listen to stories about Svaneti, a Georgian region that has best preserved ancient culture and language. At midday, arrive at one of the highest villages in Europe, Ushguli (2,100 m), where a few hundred people live year-round. Visit the 9th-century Lamaria Church with views of Georgia’s highest peak – Mt. Shkhara (5,193 m). Then head toward Shkhara glacier: your guide will take you partway in a 4x4 vehicle, and you’ll continue hiking approx. 4 km (1.5–2 hrs round-trip). Horseback option available. After lunch, leave Mestia and drive through the scenic mountain road with a stop at Enguri Dam. Return to Kutaisi in the evening. Drop-off at Kutaisi hotel.
