About Periyar
Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, also known as Periyar Tiger Reserve, is one of the most famous protected areas in Kerala, located in Thekkady, Idukki district. Spread across the Cardamom Hills and Pandalam Hills of the Western Ghats, it covers about 925 sq. km, with a core zone of 350 sq. km as a tiger reserve.
The sanctuary is renowned for its rich biodiversity, scenic beauty, and eco-tourism activities. At its heart lies the Periyar Lake, a man-made reservoir formed by the Mullaperiyar Dam, which adds to the charm of the forest landscape. The lake is a prime spot for boat cruises, where visitors often spot wild animals coming to the water’s edge.

Day 01: Kochi to Thekkady – Periyar
Pick up from Kochi and proceed for Thekkady, on arrive at Thekkady, Check into your hotel/resort surrounded by spice plantations.
Afternoon, enjoy a boat cruise on Periyar Lake, a unique way to witness Nature Beauty
Evening, explore the local spice market or opt for a Kalaripayattu martial art show or Kathakali dance performance in Thekkady town.
Overnight stay at hotel in Thekkady.

Day 02: Periyar Nature Walk – Departure
Early morning, proceed for a guided Nature Walk in Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, led by trained forest guides.
Walk through lush evergreen and moist deciduous forests.
Experience the serene atmosphere of the Western Ghats.
Return to the hotel for breakfast.
Later, visit a spice plantation tour to learn about cardamom, pepper, cinnamon, and vanilla cultivation.
