The flight from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu to Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla marks the thrilling start of your Everest Base Camp adventure. Situated at an altitude of 2,845 meters (9,335 feet), Lukla is famous for its short, sloped runway and dramatic mountain setting—making it one of the most exhilarating airports in the world.

Operated by local carriers such as Tara Air, Yeti Airlines, and Shree Airlines, the flight spans a distance of 138 kilometers (86 miles) and offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas during the quick ascent. While there are several departures daily, schedules are subject to change due to variable mountain weather.

For trekkers traveling with Alpine Club of Himalaya, it’s essential to note the baggage allowance: typically 15 kg for checked luggage and 5 kg for carry-on. Given the popularity of the route, particularly during peak trekking seasons in spring and autumn, booking your flight in advance is highly recommended.

With its combination of stunning scenery and heart-pounding takeoff and landing, the Kathmandu to Lukla flight is more than just a transfer—it’s an unforgettable introduction to your Himalayan journey.
