Your day begins early with pickup from your accommodation in Cusco between 3:30 and 4:00 AM. As you leave the city, enjoy the beautiful Andean scenery, passing traditional villages, mountain roads, and quiet valleys on the way to Cusipata.

In Cusipata, stop for breakfast and take some time to prepare for the hike. You can also buy water and snacks before continuing to the trailhead, located at around 4,850 meters (15,912 ft) above sea level.

From here, begin your hike to Rainbow Mountain, also known as Vinicunca or the Mountain of 7 Colors. Follow the trail through the high Andes, surrounded by colorful hills, open grasslands, and snow-capped mountains. Along the way, you may see llamas, alpacas, and wild vicuñas.

As you get closer, the famous colors of Rainbow Mountain slowly come into view. Once you reach the viewpoint at around 5,020 meters (16,437 ft), take your time to rest, enjoy the scenery, and capture photos of one of Peru’s most famous natural attractions.

If you would like to see more of the area, you can also choose to visit Red Valley. Located near Rainbow Mountain, Red Valley is known for its deep red hills and beautiful Andean scenery. It is a great option for travelers who want to explore more and take additional photos before heading back.

During the hike, your professional guide will walk with you at a comfortable pace and share information about Rainbow Mountain, local wildlife, Andean culture, and the surrounding area. For your safety, your guide carries a first-aid kit and emergency oxygen throughout the hike.

If you prefer not to walk the entire route, horseback riding or motorbike services may be available locally for an additional cost.

After visiting Rainbow Mountain and, if selected, Red Valley, return to the starting point and take transportation back to Cusipata. Enjoy a tasty buffet lunch with local dishes before continuing your journey to Cusco.

Relax during the drive back and arrive in Cusco between approximately 4:00 and 5:00 PM, usually near Plaza de Armas.
