What you can expect

  • The tour starts in Taormina, known as “the Pearl of the Ionian Sea”, which was one of the first Greek colonies on the east coast of Sicily. The beautiful centre is characterized by both Baroque and medieval styles, which make it a unique and rare town. As you walk along the main street, Corso Umberto, you will grasp the true essence of this old town: the ancient Roman Naumachia and the Baroque and medieval styles of Piazza Duomo, Palazzo Corvaja, and Piazza IX Aprile. Along the way, you will find the Ancient Greek Theatre, which you can visit on your own and admire its impressive views of Etna and the Ionian coast. The next stop is Castelmola, a medieval village situated above Taormina.
This village is recognized as part of the Italian cultural heritage, and its medieval atmosphere will take you back in time. As you walk along the alleys, a small road climbs to the remains of the Castle of Mola, once a fortress that controlled a vast territory from its elevated position and protected it from enemy raids. Descending from the castle ruins, you will pass various churches, notably the Cathedral dedicated to San Nicola di Bari and the Church of San Giorgio, the town's patron saint. In the main square of this lovely village, you can enjoy fantastic sea views while tasting the typical almond liqueur at the eccentric “Bar Turrisi”.
