What you can expect
The Burana Tower is one of the most important historical monuments in Kyrgyzstan. It is an ancient minaret located near the city of Tokmok, about 80 km east of Bishkek.
Description
Built in the 11th century as part of the medieval city of Balasagun, the capital of the Karakhanid Khanate.
Originally the tower is believed to have been about 40–45 meters tall.
After several earthquakes over the centuries, its height was reduced to about 24.6 meters.
Constructed from baked bricks with decorative geometric patterns.
Explore the stunning natural wonder of Konorchek Canyon, located in the Chui Valley of northern Kyrgyzstan. Drive from Bishkek and take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains as you make your way to the canyon.
Upon arrival, be greeted by a panoramic view of the canyon’s unique landscape. The red and orange-hued rock formations are the result of centuries of erosion, creating tall spires, cliffs, and canyons that stretch across the horizon. The color of the rocks, especially when bathed in the golden light of sunrise or sunset, is absolutely mesmerizing.
Konorchek Canyon offers several hiking opportunities, ranging from easy to moderate in difficulty. Walk down into the canyon and explore the rock formations up close. Encounter towering cliffs and narrow gorges that create an almost alien landscape.
Take a longer, more challenging hike through narrow paths and lead to some of the canyon’s most impressive views. Along the way, pass by “fairy chimneys”—tall, thin spires of rock that have been sculpted by wind and water over time.
For a more strenuous hike, ascend the canyon’s cliffs for a fantastic panoramic view of the entire area. From this vantage point, capture stunning photos of the canyon's landscape and its unusual formations.
One of the highlights of Konorchek Canyon is its dramatic, colorful landscape. The combination of red, orange, and brown rocks, contrasted with the green of the surrounding vegetation, creates a striking visual. The canyon is also filled with deep crevices, small ravines, and towering rock spires, giving it a distinct, almost otherworldly appearance.
The canyon is also home to several natural “windows” and arches formed in the rock, perfect for photography or just taking in the view. As the sun shifts throughout the day, the light changes, giving the canyon a different look, making it a great spot for both sunrise and sunset views.
